Systems Support Engineer

To support our growth, we require a new member to join our helpdesk team. The day-to-day duties will be varied but with a strong emphasis on providing first class professional support to our customers end users, partners and internal AutoCoding Systems engineers. Tasks include diagnosing problems, reviewing technical symptoms, and gathering data and facts.

Understanding of the support issue is important and requires a mix of skills including customer liaison, remote diagnosis and at times third party liaison to reach a successful support resolution and outcome.

Summary of Role

  • Providing daily customer support via the telephone and remote access, liaising with the customer’s IT/IS departments
  • Installation of AutoCoding System server software in a customer environment
  • Supporting the installation, set-up, configuration and commissioning of the connected devices to specification
  • Establishing the network communications on all line devices and associated systems and carrying out system tests as part of the commissioning process
  • Identifying and escalating issues to relevant departments when necessary
  • Supporting our engineering team remotely with expertise in the latest software releases
  • Conducting customer training at our training centre or on-site as required
  • As a support service we provide 24/7 support globally – we are looking to implement a structured shift pattern of 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm.

You will have:

  • Experience working in a client-facing role supporting IT projects or systems – this could be a 1st line support role
  • Experience of some full cycle software implementation
  • End user interaction where you have guided users on how to use a system
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and client-facing skills
  • Possess understanding of TCP/IP networks (including features such as Firewalls, IIS, and FTP)
  • You will be flexible and willing to travel around 10% of the time to customer sites. While this is primarily UK based there are occasions where overseas travel is required. (Notice will be provided)
  • Preparedness to be on an out of hours on-call rota, in which you will be rewarded in supporting out-of-hours support
  • Full UK passport and UK driving license.

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Understanding of Microsoft SQL Server
  • Exposure to scripting languages such as XML, XSLT, ASP
  • Knowledge of other Microsoft SQL tools including SSRS, SSAS, SSIS
  • Experience of working within a business that links software to industrial devices
  • Ability to converse in a foreign language.

Business Development Manager

To support our growth, we require a new member to join our sales team. Reporting to the UK and Europe Sales Director and part of a winning sales team, you will be responsible for representing and growing Autocoding within the UK Market.

Autocoding as a software product portfolio offers a wide tool set to support FMCG manufacturers to solve complex challenges within their packing operation means no two customer challenges are the same and you will be required to sustain both a commercial focus but a keen problem solving mantra in you dealing with customers.

Responsibilities

As a Business Development Manager you will instigate and lead opportunities and respond to new enquiries, mostly involving customer meetings, presentations, quotation/ proposals and on-site surveys. In this role you will be expected to work unsupervised and largely on your own initiative; always however with the available support and guidance from your manager/ colleagues. We have a dedicated Marketing team, as well as an extremely experienced Technical Support Group for all and any pre-sales matters.

You will be a quick learner, motivated by challenges and not fazed by high expectations.

You will have an excellent sales performance track record in automation related system sales of an industrial nature and have an all-round comprehension of the industrial software industry and its leading products.

Our Sales team is built on responsibility and ownership – we expect you to relish the prospect of achieving blue-chip customer sales with a highly innovative product and the establishment of long term customer/ partner relationships. Whilst the majority of our customers to date have been from the food and beverage industry, our products are adaptable to other FMCG market sectors.

Device Driver Tester

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, driven Device Driver Tester to join a growing software team in the continuing development of our global software platform.

The driver developer team is part of the main product development team at AutoCoding Systems. We develop and maintain an enterprise class product called AutoCoding that contains many first-class features for the control and automation of packaging lines and related workflow. Our product extends from primary item through to pallet. Throughout our solution we control multiple devices using our own developed drivers. Frequently we interface other systems/ APIs as necessary and enjoy a healthy relationship with other vendors’ software.

Responsibilities

As a Driver Tester you will play a varied role and will be exposed to the full lifecycle within an agile environment. As part of the strategic software team, your focus will be on contributing to the next generation of core products targeting a global marketplace. In this role, you will focus on enabling the driver development process, from communication with the manufacturer and specification of the driver’s behaviour down to testing device drivers, documentation, and troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy the challenges of applying mathematical and scientific investigation within the context of software programming and byte-level device communications.

During the first weeks and months of your employment at AutoCoding, you will work closely with our Device Driver Developers & Head of QA to understand the tools and techniques we use to create robust and feature-rich drivers as well as ensure we have strong processes around them to guarantee their quality.

Our development team is built on responsibility and ownership – we expect developers and testers to be knowledgeable and confident in bringing ideas to the table, and to nurture those ideas to fruition. You will embrace the opportunity to contribute to our entire testing lifecycle, from troubleshooting and diagnosis of problems to implementing robust solutions to help prevent their re-occurrence.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • An interest in low-level device communications, deciphering protocol from vendor documentation.
  • Enjoy working with a variety of software packages and devices/ equipment to determine strategies for network communications to develop drivers.

Beneficial

  • Experience of low-level device communications (TCP/RS232), embedded software, or firmware development.
  • Understanding of all stages of the development lifecycle

 

Reporting

  • The role will report directly to the Head of QA.
  • The role is based at the ACS offices outside Frodsham, Cheshire, with occasional visits to customer sites or partner offices where necessary.

Project Engineer

Your role based in the South of the UK will be to co-ordinate, manage and complete project installations AutoCoding software (ACS) solutions and integrated connections of packaging line devices such as printers, check weighers, barcode scanners and vision systems. The day to day duties will be varied in composition including management of customer communications and leadership of project activity, installation of hardware on customer sites, supporting end-users, working with integrators, and conducting site training. The role will also include deployment of software and configuration of systems both remotely via VPN and from clients’ sites throughout the UK and Ireland.

Deployment of our systems is also a key service provided. This involves the full use of AutoCoding’s tools to deploy our software applications to the customer’s server environment and the deployment of the required application stack and associated testing.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Acting as onsite project lead, for co-ordination activities and relevant communication of project tasks.
  • Utilising your software, electrical and mechanical skills to install, troubleshoot and support the end to end solution to a high standard and in an efficient time scale.
  • Configuring hardware devices such as HMIs, PCs, PLCs, Barcode scanners, Vision equipment and industrial coders.
  • Fault find on Ethernet and RS232, using electrical and software skills.
  • Undertake customer training from the basic line operation to full system training.
  • Be able to communicate and lead discussions with a wide customer audience.
  • Configure the end to end solution to enable integration from line side through to ERP/ MES type systems.
  • Conduct project analysis such as packaging, hardware and system implementation surveys.
  • Liaise with the development and solutions teams within the company to allow thorough testing of new devices before drivers are released to site engineers and integrators.
  • Identify and escalate issues to relevant departments when necessary.
  • To be part of the Out of Hours rota and take calls from customer sites and resolve issues.

 

Things we would like to see on your CV …

  • At least 5 years of experience working in an engineering role, preferably a project engineer.
  • Have a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in relevant electrical discipline
  • Have a minimum of HNC in relevant engineering discipline
  • Be able to demonstrate mechanical skills that have been acquired
  • Strong appetite to learn and use our own software and 3rd party software systems.
  • You will take an innovative approach to problem solving and be able to utilise and share knowledge with others in the team and across the company.
  • A basic understanding of TCP/IP networks
  • Ability to prioritise issues and escalate when necessary
  • End user and project team training skills
  • Excellent client facing skills
  • You will be flexible and willing to undertake support across the UK, Europe and potentially other areas of the world.
  • Full UK passport and UK driving license
