For the first time, AutoCoding Systems has developed an integrated system for multiple simultaneous packaging line inspections. The ability to automate in-line inspection after case erection and secondary case packaging, helps the food and consumer goods packaging industry to avoid irregular casing, ensure stable packaging, and promote greater reliability and safety.
The new case inspection solution incorporates the latest hardware developments from SICK. It uses a Visionary T-Mini 3D camera, a Ruler3120, SIM2500, and a 2D MidiCam2.
Structural integrity reassurance
The AutoCoding solution provides the latest way to integrate all of SICK’s new devices into the updated and more powerful sensor integration module in the most efficient and reproducible way. It incorporates SICK’s 3D camera, which provides the latest in high pixel density image quality, with greater time-of-flight detection and precision monitoring. It allows factories and distribution centres to detect anomalies such as an open cases in smaller spaces.
Robin Eatch, AutoCoding’s technical director, says: “It is ideal for industries that want to minimise the risk of damage and injury caused by cases falling off pallets, due to lack of case structural integrity from open flaps and damaged corners.”
“In addition, the high resolution 2D colour camera, which can detect the imprints of labels on cases, allows us to carry out far more extensive inspections. As well as being able to handle different case sizes, it will be able to check for specific colours and rotated barcodes at much higher speeds and depths – all new features for 2023. Higher quality inspection and object detection is provided by the new 2D camera. In combination with the ruler, we can provide greater precision, safety and flexibility for varying parameters in a highly interchangeable and demanding environment – where speed is of the essence,” explains Robin.
The new solution will be demonstrated on the SICK stand at Pack Expo (Central Hall, Booth C-5128) taking place 11-13 September 2023 at the Convention Center, Las Vegas. Robin Eatch will also be demonstrating how the solution is able to detect cases that are the wrong size and cases that are inadequately sealed.
Let’s make it smarter
The new solution is a testament to our ability as a software provider to evolve with the technical applications in the marketplace. Our ability to leverage this from a technical and digital perspective makes us ideal for OmniBlu™. OmniBlu™ is a subscription-based contract developed by parent company JBT Corporation. The contract focuses on three transformational features, including proactive maintenance, parts and services, and digital tools and insights.
AutoCoding will also be on hand at the JBT Corporation booth during Pack Expo to support the OmniBlu™ offering with demonstrations of AutoCoding’s automatic print inspection, packaging verification, inspection reporting and coding automation applications. Visitors can expect to see AutoCoding’s standard solution working alongside Proseal’s tray sealing machine. They will be able to see first-hand how the AutoCoding solution can set up correct recipes, check for correct barcodes with enhanced 4Sight technology, and ensure that the film is correctly placed in the tray sealer.
Visitors who are interested in learning more about how to optimise Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) can visit the JBT booth to talk to AutoCoding about our line performance reporting modules.
